World Punjabi Organisation celebrated Shri. Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday in the precincts of Rashtrapati Bhawan on 13th November, 2008. This is the second time that the Gurpurab was celebrated at Rashtrapati Bhawan, earlier celebrations being held in 2005.
Floral tribute was paid at the portrait of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji by Vice President Dr. Hamid Ansari and President Smt. Pratibha Patil ji. Siropa and a portrait of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji was presented to the President by Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Padma Shri, International President WPO and Office Bearers of WPO namely Sr. B.S. Chadha-Vice President WPO, Sr. B.S. Kakar- Chairman Intl. Affaris, Sr. B.S. Anand-Chairman National Affairs & Sr. Amrit Singh Thapar-Hony. Secy General.
In his introductory address, Sr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney brought out various aspects of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and his teachings. He emphasized that Guru Nanak Dev ji was a true symbol of universal brotherhood. For him there was only one God who is eternal and timeless. For all religions the goal is the same but the path to it may be different. For him there was no cast and creed. He started the practice of “Community Kitchen” where every one irrespective of his status or cast sat together to par take “Guru ka Langar”.
