Scintillating and energetic Performances by Manmohan Waris, Kamal Heer & Pakistani sensation Fariha Parvez together with Bhangra / Giddha by BMP were the highlights of Baisakhi celebrations that enveloped the air of Delhi on Monday, the 13th day of April 2014. Baisakhi festivities and celebrations were organized by World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) spreading the message of love, peace & prosperity at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi where people from all walks of life joined in the grandeur of the event.
An exhilarating fervor loaded the senses of the audience of over two thousand music lovers when Manmohan Waris took to stage with rendering of his popular songs one after the other. His performance entranced the audience who were found clapping their hands and tapping their feet in their seats. Kamal Heer cast a spell on the audience as he moved from folk to contemporary with equal ease. Fariha’s rendition of popular folk and sufi brought a feeling of nostalgia. The event was compered by versatile anchor Satinder Satti.
“World Punjabi Organisation is promoting Punjabi culture and heritage through various activities and thereby uniting Punjabis staying all over the globe for over 17 years”, said Vikramjit Sahney, International President , WPO. Mr. Sahney announced many social schemes by WPO such as scholarships to needy Punjabi students for higher education and training them for competitive examinations, organizing marriages of poor Punjabi girls and empowering them with vocational skills for their economic independence.
On this occasion, ‘Punjabi Rattan’ awards were presented to The Rt Hon The Lord Paul, Padma Bhushan awardee Mr. B.M. Munjal. Mementoes were presentated to distinguished personalities of Punjabi origin who have excelled in their respective fields that included Lord Loomba, H.E. Mr. Abdul Basit, Sunil Kant Munjal, S.S. Dhindsa, Balwinder Kumar, VC-DDA, Tarlochan Singhetc.
