Baisakhi Celebration by World Punjabi Organisation

World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) under the dynamic guidance of Sh. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, its International President celebrated Baisakhi festival on 11th April ’09 at Nitesh Kunj Farms, New Delhi. The gala evening was well attended by the elite.

The cultural evening was graced by Gen (Retd) J J Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Governor Arunachal Pradesh. Also present on the momentous occasion were Dr. Ruby Dhalla, MP, Canada, Dr. M.S. Gill, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sr. Tarlochan Singh, MP, Sr. Bishen Singh Bedi, The test cricketer and Rajiee M. Shinde and Rabinder Narayan of PTC.

Main attraction for the show was the performance by the famous singer actor Harbhajan Mann who kept the gathering spell bound with his melodious Punjabi numbers and had the audience rooting for more. With his inimitable style and soothing voice he was able to establish immediate rapport both with young and old.

Others who performed to make the evening lively were Kaptan Laddi, BMP Fire Troupe with their Bhangra and Giddha numbers and Dr. Zeus from UK. Vikram Sahney also drew a round of applause for his Punjabi number.

Satinder Satti who compered the evening was her usual grace and elegance in maintaining the flow of events.

WPO on this occasion honoured Gen (Retd) J J Singh, Governor Arunachal Pradesh with Punjabi Rattan Award for his invaluable service to nation and Dr. Ruby Dhalla with Punjabi Gold Award.
